How to Choose the Right Flooring for Your Rhode Island Home

LTC Contracting

Climate and Moisture Considerations

Rhode Island sees seasonal humidity and, in many homes, basements that can be damp. For below-grade or moisture-prone areas, solid hardwood is generally not recommended; engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), or tile are better options. In living areas above grade, hardwood and quality laminate can perform well when installed correctly with appropriate underlayment and acclimation.

Comparing Options: Durability and Maintenance

Tile is tough and handles water well, so it works in bathrooms and entryways. Luxury vinyl plank is also water-resistant and comes in a lot of looks for less than hardwood. Hardwood lasts and adds value but doesn't like standing water or heavy abuse. Laminate looks like wood for less but usually handles moisture worse. We help Rhode Island homeowners match options to budget and use so the floor holds up.

Installation Matters

Even good product fails when the install is wrong. Subfloors need to be flat and dry, and expansion and transitions have to suit our climate. We install several flooring types and focus on prep and install so the floor looks good and lasts.
